Industrial Water Chiller Refrigerant's Classification and Introduction

Based on chemical compositions, industrial chiller refrigerants can be divided into 5 categories: inorganic compound refrigerants, freon, saturated hydrocarbon refrigerants, unsaturated hydrocarbon refrigerants, and azeotropic mixture refrigerants. According to the condensing pressure, chiller refrigerants can be classified into 3 categories: high-temperature (low-pressure) refrigerants, medium-temperature (medium-pressure) refrigerants, and low-temperature (high-pressure) refrigerants. The refrigerants widely used in industrial chillers are ammonia, freon, and hydrocarbons.

In the early stage of industrial development, R12 and R22 were used in most industrial refrigeration equipment. The cooling capacity of R12 is significantly large, and its energy efficiency is also high. But R12 caused great damage to the ozone layer and was forbidden in most countries.

Refrigerants R-134a, R-410a, and R-407c, in compliance with the international environmental protection requirement, are used in S&A industrial chillers:

(1)R-134a (Tetrafluoroethane) Refrigerant

R-134a is an internationally recognized refrigerant that is commonly used as a replacement for R12. It has an evaporation temperature of -26.5°C and shares similar thermodynamic properties with R12. However, unlike R12, R-134a is not harmful to the ozone layer. Due to this, it is extensively used in vehicle air conditioners, commercial and industrial refrigeration systems, and as a foaming agent for producing hard plastic insulation materials. R-134a can also be used to create other mixed refrigerants, such as R404A and R407C. Its main application is as an alternative refrigerant to R12 in automobile air conditioners and refrigerator refrigeration.

(2)R-410a Refrigerant

Physical and Chemical Properties: Under normal temperature and pressure, R-410a is a chlorine-free, fluoroalkane, non-azeotropic mixed refrigerant. It is a colorless, compressed liquefied gas that is stored in steel cylinders. With an Ozone Depletion Potential (ODP) of 0, R-410a is an environmentally-friendly refrigerant that does not harm the ozone layer.

Main Application: R-410a is mainly used as a replacement for R22 and R502. It is known for its cleanliness, low toxicity, non-combustibility, and excellent cooling performance. As a result, it is widely used in household air conditioners, small commercial air conditioners, and household central air conditioners.

(3)R-407C Refrigerant

Physical and Chemical Properties: R-407C is a chlorine-free fluoroalkane non-azeotropic mixed refrigerant under normal temperature and pressure. It is a colorless, compressed liquefied gas that is stored in steel cylinders. It has an Ozone Depletion Potential (ODP) of 0, making it also an environmentally-friendly refrigerant that does not harm the ozone layer.

Main Application: As a replacement for R22, R-407C is characterized by its cleanliness, low toxicity, non-combustibility, and excellent cooling performance, widely used in household air conditioners and small and medium-sized central air conditioners.

In today's era of industrial growth, the preservation of the environment has become a pressing concern, making "carbon neutrality" a top priority. In response to this trend, S&A industrial chiller manufacturer is making a concerted effort to utilize eco-friendly refrigerants. By collaboratively promoting energy efficiency and minimizing emissions, we can work towards creating a "global village" characterized by pristine natural landscapes.
