How to Position an Industrial Chiller Correctly?

Proper industrial chiller positioning is essential for stable performance and efficient cooling. The unit should be installed in a well-ventilated area to avoid heat recirculation caused by poor airflow. Maintain sufficient clearance around air inlets and outlets to ensure effective heat dissipation, including about 1–3.5 m above the outlet depending on chiller power and 1 m on the sides.

The installation environment also directly affects chiller reliability and service life. Avoid corrosive gases, oil mist, conductive dust, direct sunlight, and high humidity conditions. Recommended operating conditions are 0–40°C ambient temperature, ≤90% relative humidity, and altitude below 3000 m. Proper placement helps maintain stable cooling performance and reduce maintenance risks.

Proper chiller positioning is critical for operational efficiency—yet often overlooked.

1. Ensure Adequate Airflow
Restricted ventilation leads to heat recirculation and performance loss. Always maintain sufficient clearance around both inlet and outlet vents.

Recommended Clearance: 1) Low-power chillers: Top outlet space: ≥1.5 m; Side inlet distance from obstacles: ≥1 m. 2) High-power chillers: Top outlet space: ≥3.5 m; Side inlet distance from obstacles: ≥1 m. It is also recommended to leave at least 1 m maintenance space for cleaning and servicing.

2. Control the Installation Environment
Avoid corrosive gases, oil mist, conductive dust, direct sunlight, and extreme humidity. These accelerate component degradation.

3. Adhere to Standard Operating Conditions
Ambient temperature: 0–40°C
Relative humidity: ≤90%
Altitude: ≤3000m

4. Allow Service Access
Reserve space for routine cleaning and maintenance to ensure long-term reliability.

Correct placement extends chiller lifespan and prevents avoidable downtime.
