Laser Metal Deposition (LMD), also known as laser cladding, is an advanced additive manufacturing process in which a high-energy laser creates a controlled melt pool on the substrate while metal powder or wire is continuously fed into it. The operation takes place in a shielding gas environment to prevent oxidation and stabilize the molten zone. As the material melts and solidifies, it forms a strong metallurgical bond with the base surface, making LMD ideal for surface enhancement, dimensional restoration, and remanufacturing in aerospace, tooling, and high-value component repair.
